Saturday – a whole day ahead of us. A whole day of … not meeting with friends, not going to the shops, not going to Alison’s, even Jack and Theo’s football club has been cancelled!
Mum made a really nice breakfast– pancakes with maple syrup and squirty cream.
When I asked her what we were allowed to do today, she had a really interesting answer.
“When lots of things are out of your control, think about the things you can control, and do that well!”
Jack looked up with a cheeky grin. “I can control the TV remote REALLY WELL!”
Mum frowned – don’t think she expected that answer.
I decided to put together a play list of all my favourite music (even cheesy stuff that the boys hate). It took me about 20 minutes, and there was some Christmas music, music from Kids’ Church, old music that Mum likes. I’m thought I could dance to the music for 2 hours!
I was exhausted after 10 minutes, but Mum joined in sometimes, so did the boys, and after an hour we stopped for a drink and a rest. It was actually a really fun morning.
In the afternoon, Mrs Smith came round for a cup of tea. She’s allowed, because she is in our Bubble. I told her about wanting to be ‘Santa’s helper’ this year and asked if she could teach me how to knit or crochet. (I didn’t tell her about my idea of a teapot cosy – that bit is a surprise.) She thought that was a really good idea, and suggested tomorrow was a good day to start. She showed me a website where I could find lots of crochet patterns. I chose a scarf to start with. Mrs Smith said that was a good first project.
I’m trying to think of other things I can control too! (Jack finally got to use the TV remote in the evening – we all watched a Christmas movie – it’s NEVER too early!!)
